SCHOOLS SUMMER BIATHLON CHAMPIONSHIPS SATURDAY 27 MAY 2017 – mountain bike format

Biathlon, Small Bore Rifle Shooting, 3 Position Rifle Shooting and Air Rifle Shooting

WHEN: Saturday 27th May 12 noon-4 pm
WHERE: SSAA Klinges Rd, West Wodonga

Biathlon is a combination of two sports. Winter Biathlon is XC Skiing and Small Bore .22 Rifle shooting.

Summer Biathlon can involve Running or Roller Skiing or Mt Biking combined with Shooting at falling plate targets.

For the SCHOOLS SUMMER BIATHLON CHAMPIONSHIPS Mt Biking and Shooting will be the two sports

WHO: All students from Grade 3 to Year 12 are eligible to participate Note Students under 12 years will use LASER Biathlon Rifles (no permits or restrictions apply) and Students 12 years and older will shoot Small Bore Rifles 0.22 calibre under the direct supervision of Senior Licensed Shooters

FORMAT:
Competitions will take the form of 2 person relays
Length of each loop will vary with Classes and range from 0.5 km to 1.5 km
Targets to be either Laser 5 bulls electronic targets at a distance of 10 metres
Or traditional 5 bull falling plate Biathlon competition falling metal plate targets at a distance of 50 metres

CLASSES:
Boys and Girls in the following Age Classes ( Cut off Date 31st Dec 2017):
UNDER 16 Secondary School Students
UNDER 12 Primary School Students
OPEN Staff / Parents and Senior Secondary Students
TEAMS: will consist of 2 competitors in a relay format, schools may enter more than one team in each Division

Mixed teams are acceptable but will compete in the Boys Class

Unofficial teams with students from different schools can compete but will not be eligible for Schools championship awards

COMPETITION & SHOOTING:
Relays will encompass the International Super Sprint format competing over short loops and using max of 8 individual shots at each shooting stage
Each competitor will ride and shoot twice
Classes:
Under 12 Primary School, Under 16 Secondary School will fire in the prone position using rifle supports at Standing (larger) targets using a max of 8 single loaded shots to hit 5 targets. Missed targets after 8 shots will incur a penalty loop

CLASSES: OPEN Senior Secondary ,Teachers and Parents will fire in the prone position using rifle supports at the Prone (45mm) target using a max of 8 single loaded shots to hit 5 targets. Missed targets after 8 shots will incur a penalty loop.

However JUNIOR Biathletes (Under 18) with 1 or more years of experience will shoot at Prone Targets (45 mm), use Biathlon arm bands and WILL NOT use rifle supports.

ENTRY FEES:
$5.00 for laser rifle events (under 12)
$10.00 for .22 calibre rifle events (Juniors Under 18 )
$25.00 for adults (18 and over)
Entry fee includes range fee, equipment and ammunition

LATE ENTRIES: Accepted on Saturday 27th May and will incur a $5.00 late fee
Entries on the day may be accepted $10.00 Team Late entry Fee
All participants will receive a distinctive Certificate

WHAT TO BRING:

1 A Mt Bike that is road worthy. Courses will be set on flat undulating terrain
2 A Bike Helmet (Compulsory) that is worn whilst Riding and Shooting
3 A willingness to accept and combine different challenges
4 NOTE: Rifles and Ammunition Supplied
